Developing a comprehensive community outreach module on GBV awareness raising considering the Rohingya refugee and host community context

Project Information

Title:

Developing a comprehensive community outreach module on GBV awareness raising considering the Rohingya refugee and host community context

Client:

International Rescue Committee (IRC)

Description:

Objectives: The project aimed to develop a comprehensive community outreach module on gender-based violence (GBV) awareness-raising, with a focus on the Rohingya refugee and host community context in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. The goal was to improve community awareness and create a protective environment from a gender perspective, particularly for children, adolescent girls, and women, considering the high prevalence of GBV in the region.

Location: Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh

Duration of Assignment: 6 months (June 2022–November 2022)

Narrative Description of Project: The project was initiated in response to the findings of the IRC’s “GBV Trends Among Rohingya Refugees in Cox’s Bazar” report, which highlighted that a majority of GBV incidents in the area were perpetrated by intimate partners, with physical assault being the primary form of GBV reported by women and girls. The consequences of GBV, in all its forms, are significant and affect survivors both physically and emotionally. The report also indicated that one in four women and girls screened in Cox’s Bazar had experienced gender-based violence. In light of these findings, IRC aimed to develop a comprehensive community outreach module on GBV awareness. The module was designed to raise awareness within the community and create a protective environment, particularly for vulnerable groups.
